Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (IVSLA)
(Venetian Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts)
[This academy finds its origins in an
Istituto Nazionale founded in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.
In 1810, at the wish of Bonaparte, who had become Emperor, that Istituto
took the name Reale Istituto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (or
Istituto Reale di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti).
In 1838, the current ruler, Emperor Ferdinando I of Austria divided the
Istituto into two, one based in Milano, and this one in Venezia.
The Istituto Veneto had its first meeting in 1840.
By 1847 it was called
Imperial Regio Istituto Veneto.
At some point this became Reale, which was dropped after the Second
World War.
This body published a long series of Atti beginning in
1840.]
