Introduction
Since about 2003, May 21 (when there was an upgrade to the operating
system of
the server on which the Scholarly Societies Project resides), there have
been intermittent problems with the domain name
www.scholarly-societies.org.
Our Systems Support staff are currently attempting to rectify the problem.
But, due the random occurrence of the problems, it would be useful to have
more documentation on when it is occurring, and whether it appears to have
stopped.
The Nature of the Problem
The problem appears to occur at random and
it can last up to 1.5 hours before disappearing.
When the problem occurs, it shows up in two different ways:
- All URLs that begin with www.scholarly-societies.org give a
page not found message, except
- the URL www.scholarly-societies.org followed by nothing else,
which delivers the following page:
instead of the correct page, which is
What to Do
If the problem occurs, we ask you to do two things:
- Use the old URL
www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/society/ instead of the new one
(www.scholarly-societies.org) until the new one is working again;
the outages seem not last beyond 1.5 hours.
[You may want to take the precaution of bookmarking the old URL.]
- Fill out the problem report at
http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/society/problem_report.html
so that we may know that you had a problem, and when it occurred.
When we stop receiving problem reports from you about this problem, we
will assume that it has been rectified.
