According to Jaumann (2002), p.43, the formal founding of this Society was preceded by the formation in 1733 of a Privat-Versammlung (private gathering) devoted to Latin studies under the direction of Georg Ludwig Herzog.

Jaumann (2002), p.44 indicates that in 1734 the Society was formally founded and integrated into the organizational structure of the Universität Jena. According to Jaumann (2002), pp.44-45, the formal founding ceremony took place on 1734, June 4.

According to Jaumann (2002), p.33, the Society was dissolved in 1848.
