1752	According to its website (), the Academy was founded on 1752, July 30, initially as an Académie Générale pour tous les Ports. Société Académie Général There is a record in the Cat. Collect. France (CCFR) with the title statement Élémens de l'architecture navale : ou, Traité pratique de la construction des vaisseaux / Par M. Duhamel du Monceau, de l'Académie Royale des Sciences, de la Société Royale de Londres, Honoraire de la Société d'Edimbourg, & de l'Académie de Marine, Inspecteur Général de la Marine (pub. 1752). This establishes the use of the name Académie de Marine already in 1752, indicating that the initial appellation was quickly superseded within the founding year itself. Its website () goes on to say that from 1763 the Academy had essentially ceased, except that it retained a permanent secretary; then in 1769 it was reconstituted as the Académie Royale de Marine, but later suppressed (along with so many other Academies) on 1793, August 8 by the Convention. Its website () also indicates that in spite of various initiatives, the Academy was not re-established until 1921, October 28, when it was given once again the name Académie de Marine.
