this Society was founded in 1755 and reconstituted (evidently after the
1793 suppression of scholarly societies in France) in 1807; the only name
given attached to these two dates is
Société Académique de Cherbourg.
The dates given above are consistent with the dates of a publication of
this Society, which was labelled as Scudder,
#1127a, namely
Comptes-rendus annuels et sommaires des travaux
, which was alleged by Scudder to have been published from the
years 1755 - 1793; 1807 - 1833.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to confirm the existence of such a
publication in the most obvious sources: the

which occurs under the header

académique.".
We have been unable to locate any trace of it in either the
Bibliot. Nat. France cat. or the
much broader
Catalogue Collectif de France.
Perhaps these items were merely reports submitted to some governmental
body (or, perhaps, to the Académie des Sciences in Paris),
rather than documents printed in sufficient quantities and with a
sufficiently wide distribution to justify the term publication.
