1779

According an entry on this Society in the
Encyclopedie van Nederlandstalige Tijdschriften (ENT)
the Society was founded in 1779 in the Hague
as the Natuur- en Geneeskundige Correspondentie Sociëteit.
Around 2010 we also located some information in
Arts en weer. The
following information was found in that resource.
The Frisian teacher Jan Hendrik van Swinden (1746-1823), who also
occupied himself with making meterological observations, played a
large role in this Society.
The ideas about the relationship between weather and illness propounded by
Herman Boerhaave (1668-1738) took on new life through this Society,
and for nearly fifteen years weather observations in various locations
were reported by physicians.
With the end of the 18th century came an end to the Society, because of,
among other things, the French invasion and lack of money.
