Authority / Notes
1810
A brief history webpage indicates that this Academy was founded in 1810 as the Imperiale e Regia Accademia Aretina di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti. According to its website () and also the brief history webpage, this Academy traces it origins to an "Aretina" society founded by Pietro Leopoldo in 1787, and this latter society had in turn arisen from the ashes of various other societies, the most important of which was the Accademia dei Forzati, which had been founded in 1683 on the suggestion of the scientist Francisco Redi.

Maylender (1926-1930), v.1, pp.328-329 supplies some other details. The Academy was founded in 1787 and named simply Accademia Aretina. Because of the political events that affected all of Europe towards the end of the 18th century, it became dormant until 1810 when it was revived. In a revision of its statutes adopted in 1828, the Academy renamed itself Imperiale e Reale Accademia di Scienze, Lettere e Bell'Arti o del Petrarca.
