1812 The Society was founded as the Literary and Philosophical Society of Liverpool on 1812, February 21, according to the following record in the Univ. Liverpool cat.: The laws and regulations of the Literary & Philosophical Society of Liverpool, instituted the twenty-first of February MDCCCXII (published 1815).
On p.138 of Hume, we read that "On the 21st of October, 1844, it was united with the Natural History of Liverpool, which had maintained an independant existence from September 12th, 1836, the latter merging its name, but stipulating for a due representation of its subjects."
