NOTE: The Naturforschende Gesellschaft in Basel should not be confused with the Naturforschende Gesellschaft Baselland (NGBL), which was founded in 1900, and has as scope not the Basel city Canton, but the neighbouring Baselland (also known as Basel-Landschaft) Canton. Beginning in 1995 the two societies published a joint publication, the Mitteilungen der Naturforschenden Gesellschaften beider Basel.
