Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
Founding of the Society
Year
Authority / Notes
1818
A founding date of 1818, January 2 is given by its website ().

It is not absolutely clear from information at its website () that the society was founded as the Institution of Civil Engineers. By examining catalogue records of its publications, it is possible, however, to definitively establish that this society had the name Institution of Civil Engineers from at least 1836 to the present. Furthermore the entry for this society on pp.86-88 of Hume gives no indication of any other name than Institution of Civil Engineers from the date of its founding until 1847.

In the absence of any evidence to the contrary, it seems reasonable to assume for the the time being that the name was Institution of Civil Engineers right from the date of its founding in 1818.
