1819 According to its website, in December of 1819 a group of nineteen medical doctors in Torino made a request that they might be able to meet periodically for discussions, which they would like to publish in a journal. Authorization was received in February of 1821, and they had their first meetings, which had to be private rather than public meetings because of the political unrest of the day. The work discussed in the meetings was published in an already established journal, the Repertorio delle Scienze Fisico-Mediche.
Its website goes on to say that in 1832 the body petitioned the King to subsidize a journal devoted exclusively to its own work. Finally, four years later, in 1836 there appeared the first issue of Giornale delle Scienze Mediche, the official organ of the Società Medico-Chirurgica. In 1842 they finally received a subvention to support the journal, as well as permission to hold four public meetings a year.
Finally, its website indicates that on 1846, February 10 by Royal decree of Carlo Alberto, the Society was elevated to the rank of Reale Accademia Medico-Chirurgica.
