Installing Links in the Project
If the resource actually
satisfies Project guidelines, then staff do the following (in the WWW
phase)
- Ensure that the link file has been standardized so that:
- the full name of the society appears first,
- followed by an official initialism (or obvious one) in parentheses,
- followed by the designation "Webpage" or "Gopher", as appropriate.
- Ensure that, if necessary, an annotation follows the link file
(e.g. "In Finnish", "their Newsletter only")
- Copy the entire block of
HTML code to the webpage file or gopher file as appropriate.
- Copy it
also to each appropriate subject file.
- Use a browser to verify that
the link information reads as it should.
- And test the link, and,
while doing that, check:
- if a full-text archive of a newsletter or journal is maintained for
the public; if so, get its URL and set up HTML code for its link and
install it in the full-text archives file;
- for the email address of the resource maintainer and put this
information in the email contacts file.
- for the founding date of the society and put this information in
the chronology file
- Use a browser to check the information in that last point (if
applicable)
- Update the statistics on the top-level page of the Project.
- Update the statistics on the subjects_soc page.
