Scholarly Societies Project

Verifying the Links to Resources

It is a fact of life on the Internet that any set of links will eventually include some that no longer function. This may result either because the address on the host computer has been changed, or (as in the case of society resources not mounted on the society's own computer) the resource has been completely removed from that host computer.

We monitor the links in this section on a regular basis to ensure that the links are still functional. In the case of link failure, we attempt to determine whether the link address has merely shifted on the host computer or has been completely removed from the host computer. You can help us here: if you notice that a link from the Project to a society resource is no longer functioning, or if you know where a link has moved, please let us know.

Because some links have failed so badly that we could not easily determine whether the resources were still available, we have begun a pilot project to compile a list of the email contacts for the various resources. At present this list covers only about half of the webpage resources, and none of the gopher resources.
