1815	This Society was founded in 1815 according to DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND IMPLEMENTATION (INNOVATION) IN LATVIA, which also indicates that this Society is regarded by the contemporary Latvian Academy of Sciences (founded 1949) as one of its predecessor institutions. A dissolution date of November 4, 1939 of the society is given on p.19 of Kurzemes literatūras un mākslas biedrībai ("Concerning the Kurzeme Society of Literature and Art"). The critical passage in question reads: “Sakarā ar Latvijas vācu tautības pilsoņu izceļošanu, 1939. gada 4. novembrī Sabiedrisko lietu ministrs A. Bērziņš izdeva pavēli par Kurzemes literatūras un mākslas biedrības likvidēšanu” which means that, because of the emigration from Latvia of Latvian citizens of German nationality, on November 4, 1939, the Minister of Public Affairs (A. Bērziņš) dissolved this society.

This suggests that this publication was the work of five editors, and also with the participation of the Society - that is, it was not solely the work of the Society. The fact that this publication was not the sole work of the society is consistent with remarks on p.14 of Kurzemes literatūras un mākslas biedrībai ("Concerning the Kurzeme Society of Literature and Art"), indicating that with the publication of the second volume of “Jahresverhandlungen”, the funds of the society were exhausted and there were no publications for 18 years" [meaning none from 1822-1840]. We present that information in the following paragraphs. In 1864, a new series of publications “Sitzungsberichte der kurländischen Gesellschaft für Literatur und Kunst” began to be published. The first volume contains a review of the meetings held from 1850 to 1863. The second volume “Sitzungsberichte...” publishes a review of the meetings from 1864 to 1871. tarting in 1872, “Sitzungsberichte...” were published regularly every year until the First World War interrupted the society’s activities in 1915; it resumed very slowly in the first post-war years. The next volume of “Sitzungsberichte...” was published only in 1934. It provides an overview of the society’s work from 1915 to 1934, as well as several of the most important studies and scientific reflections. The last volume of “Sitzungsberichte...” was published in 1937, which contains a report on the activities for 1935/36. Here follow some publication notes from an entry in the Zeitschriftendatenbank(ZDB). At the beginning the title was: Sitzungsberichte der Kurzemer (Kurländischen) Gesellschaft für Literatur und Kunst. The title from 1879 - 1892 was: Sitzungsberichte der Kurländischen Gesellschaft für Literatur und Kunst nebst Veröffentlichungen des Kurländischen Provinzial-Museums.
