This journal published by the
Royal Society of London
is one of the two oldest scholarly journals in the modern
sense.
It was begun a few months after the institution of the
Journal des Sçavans in 1665.
The Philosophical Transactions has been an extraordinarily
influential journal from its very inception.
It is available in two online versions:
- a freely available version from
Gallica, which, however, is comprised of only image files,
with no searchable text files.
- a subscription-based version from
JSTOR,
which has a truly superb search engine that covers over three centuries of
full-text articles from this journal.
