In a document entitled 250 Jahre ÖFFENTLICH Die Badische Landesbibliothek 1771 - 2021, we read on p.38 a passage indicating that the young Markgraf Karl Friedrich of Baden arranged for Gotlob August Tittel (1739 - 1816) to become involved with the work of the local Karlsruher Gymnasium. Following the model of the Societas Latina Ienensis (see 1734slj.html), Tittel founded on 1767, February 18 the Societas Latina Marchico-Badensis, which lasted until 1804. This passage also translates the name of the Society into German as the Lateinische Gesellschaft der Markgrafschaft Baden.
