According to p.176-177 of
Genner, the Societas Philiatrica = Philiatrien was founded on 1829 May 29 as an alternative to the
Kongelige Medicinske Selskab, which
had been founded in 1772 - and in 1872, the two societies merged to form the
Medicinske Selskab i København
( ).
Note: This is not to be
confused with an
earlier society also called Societas Philiatrica that existed from
1787 to 1791.
