On this page we list academies and other bodies like them, such as royal societies of very broad scope (e.g. of sciences or arts). In English, the word "academy" is used not only to describe the kind of society mentioned above, but also to refer to certain educational institutions (such as private secondary schools and military educational institutions); this latter kind of institution is excluded from consideration here.
